The Golden Ball
In 2015 we started our journey with The Golden Ball.
After meeting in rented buildings for the life of the church, we sensed that to continue to move forward we needed a home for the work of the church. We didn’t need a church, the people are the church, but we needed a facility to work out of and meet the growing needs of the community.
Shortly after it came on the property market, we viewed the Disraeli’s pub building, sensing that this would be a great facility and location for the home of the work of the church. The only problem was we didn’t actually have the funds to buy it, but after an incredible two months of God’s provision and generosity (be sure to ask us about this testimony!) it was ours, we had picked up the keys and were beginning to work to restore it and renovate it for the work of Poplars church.
A year and a half later the renovation work continues. We have been meeting at the Golden Ball since Christmas 2015 and are using it for some of our meetings while a dedicated team of volunteers continues to carry out the restoration work. The history of the Golden Ball goes back to at least the 1830s so we are trying to restore the building as sensitively as possible,
While we are restoring the building we are also planning an exciting future about how it can be used as a resource for both the church and the local community. If you would like to know more about the work or are interested in using the Golden Ball, please get in touch or pop in and see us. We love to talk about it!
